Osteopathy Australia releases position statements on topics and issues relevant to osteopaths, other health practitioners and health consumers. Our position statements are developed in consultation with members or through our clinical excellence committees.
Position statement on Osteopathic Treatment, Babies, Infants and Young Children. This outlines recommended safety standards in manual therapy care for osteopaths who work with children.
Position statement on Osteopaths, Children and the Wider Health Care System . This outlines standards of paediatric referral, multidisciplinary support and integrative care in osteopathy for other health professionals.
Vaccination Policy Statement. This defines Osteopathy Australia's position on vaccination, immunisation and broader pharmaceutical interventions for patients.
The Osteopathy Australia (formerly AOA) board approved the Osteopathic Service Descriptors in February 2012. These provide a rational basis for costing osteopathic healthcare.
Position statements are prepared having regard to general circumstances, and it is the responsibility of the practitioner to have express regard to the particular circumstances of each case, and the application of this statement in each case. In particular, clinical management must always be responsive to the needs of individual health consumer, resources, and limitations unique to the clinics or type of practice. Position statements have been prepared having regard to the information available at the time of their preparation, and the practitioner should therefore consider any information, research or material which may have been published or become available subsequently. Each postion statement has a published date included. While Osteopathy Australia endeavours to ensure that statements are as current as possible at the time of their preparation, it takes no responsibility for matters arising from changed circumstances or information or material which may have become available subsequently.
