National Disability Insurance Scheme
Self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants may access the services of osteopaths to help in fulfilling functional movement, physical skill development or disability related health support goals funded by the scheme.
If you are a self-managed or plan-managed participant wishing to choose an osteopath to access an osteopath, you will need to do the following things.
1) Send your current approved NDIS support plan to your chosen osteopath.
2) Ask the osteopath to tell you and write down how they would help you to meet your support plan goals. In general, unless you have funding for disability related health supports, your osteopath will not be able to give you hands on treatment, and the osteopath will outline other non-manual therapy intervention strategies to help you meet your approved goals. The strategies an osteopath would use could include exercise programs and activities for you to perform at home or with your carers to improve your function and participation in the community.
You should ask the osteopath for any written points about how they would help you. If you are self-managed these written points may be useful at your annual acquittal of funding. And, if you are plan-managed, it can be given to your plan-manager and support your decision to see an osteopath.
