This webinar will discuss the key clinical care models and guidelines currently in position to assist an evidence-informed management of low back pain for osteopaths. A focus upon non-pharmacological intervention recommendations including superficial heat wraps, exercise advice and physical therapies. Examination of the supporting and current research for clinical care model and guideline recommendations of non-pharmacological interventions as a first line treatment for low back pain management.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop knowledge of updated and revised current clinical care models and guidelines for low back pain management, nationally and internationally.

  • Develop an understanding of specific non-pharmacological intervention recommendations in current guidelines.

  • Explore different superficial heat forms and the use of continuous low level heat wraps in low back pain, with a workflow for clinical practice in osteopathic practice.

  • Discuss the current supporting research for the use of non-pharmacological interventions as a first line treatment in low back pain.

About Peter:

  • Peter has 30 clinical experience in allied health in the field of musculoskeletal and low back pain management. He is a casual academic at the School of Health, Medicine and Applied Sciences – CQ University. 

  • He is the national clinical educator for Immuron, an Australian biotech company in research and development of novel oral immunotherapies and the developer of FlexEze heat wrap, a thermal medical device currently used in major hospitals and Osteopathic practices for low back pain management.

  • He is certified by the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine and is a Fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. He was a founding member of the ACA nutrition SIG and a current committee member of the Australasian Institute of Chiropractic Education (AICE), Well-being and Lifestyle Management Clinical Practice Group.

  • His research interest lies in non-pharmacological interventions for back pain management. He is currently a Masters in Research candidate at CQ University investigating the use of superficial heat in low back pain management by osteopaths and chiropractors in Australia.
